Neal S. Bergano is currently the VP of R&D and CTO of TE SubCom. Neal started his career at Bell Laboratories, exploring new optical technologies for undersea systems division before the first undersea optical amplifier network was deployed, and has been a leader in optical communications ever since.
He is a Fellow of the IEEE, the OSA, AT&T, and TE Connectivity, has served on the boards of multiple scientific and engineering societies. He is a leading contributor to OFC for many years, and has been honored with the 2013 TE Connectivity Life-Time Achievement Award and 2002 John Tyndall Award, for outstanding technical contributions to and technical leadership in the advancement of global undersea fiber optic communication systems.
Neal holds a B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering and 31 U.S. patents in the area of optical fiber transmission systems.
