The Japanese Radio Act was revised in December 2011, and operation of 80GHz radio equipment and systems have been allowed in Japan since summer of 2012. With the advent of high-speed wireless transmission systems that enable 1Gbps data communication at a distance of 1km or more, 80Ghz systems has raised expectations, as an alternative means of laying fiber-optical cables, for:
1) construction of communication network in unprofitable and/or sparsely populated areas
2) extension of the last one mile
3) communication among remote islands, and
4) capacity expansion at cell-phone base stations to alleviate excessive communication load caused by an acute increase of smartphones in recent years.
In addition, the 80Ghz wireless systems garner attention as a temporary high-speed wireless communication tool at a time of disaster in Japan, where a lot of natural disasters took place.
Based on these perspectives, I would like to present about effectiveness and performance of the 80GHz wireless equipment including Radio on Fiber application.
