Abstract

2014 cyberattack statistics are staggering:

Bandwidth needs are growing exponentially with fiber network and subsea cable capacity constantly increasing to keep up with the demand. Not only do these networks serve as the Internet and communications backbone of our society, but they are also trusted to transport highly sensitive data that is government, personal, financial and medical in nature – and the target of cybersecurity attacks.

As demand for network capacity grows, the issue of security cannot be overlooked. New defenses and strategies are needed as security threats increase and diversify. What are telecom providers doing now and what needs to happen to protect data in the future?

Omar Altaji, CCO of Hibernia Networks, would like to propose this important topic for conversation and explore the current issues, new opportunities in 2016 and beyond, the obstacles/challenges and what needs to happen in the coming years.

Upon approval, Hibernia Networks can lead the effort in gathering an elite group of c-level executives to join the roundtable and provide their unique insight on the topic with PTC’s review and approval.

Potential Discussion Topics:

  • Why should cybersecurity be on every leaders agenda?
  • How will telecom providers anticipate and prevent cyberattacks?
  • How will cybersecurity threats – and defenses – evolve?
  • What are the emerging technologies to enhance network security?
  • After detection and alerting, how can telecom providers minimize exposure?
  • Should telecom providers take a more active role in preventing cyber breaches or is it the responsibility of all of those involved?

How does peering and redundancy play into this?
